Why Choose a Licensed Home Child Care Provider?

  • Blemish free Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check for provider and anyone living in the home over 18 years of age.
  • Home MUST be smoke free
  • All family members must have up-to-date immunizations
  • All pets must have their rabies vaccine
  • Standard First Aid Level C CPR & AED
  • House Insurance which covers the home-based business
  • Child restraint information and vehicle insurance which covers children in care (if transporting)
  • Must adhere to the Child Care and Early Years Act regulations
  • Compliance with Fire and Health inspections
  • A three- step approval process prior to being an Approved Home Child Care Provider

A home child care provider that is overseen by a licensed agency can care for up to six children under the age of 13.

All home-based child care providers must:

  • count their own children if they are younger than four years old
  • care for a maximum of three children younger than two years old

An unlicensed home child care provider can care for a maximum of five children under the age of 13.

All home-based child care providers must:

Unlicensed child care providers must:

  • not operate in more than one location
  • inform you in writing (in hard copy or electronic) that they are unlicensed. Their communication must say “This child care program is not licensed by the Government of Ontario.”
  • keep proof that they disclosed this to you for two years

Our team of Home Child Care Consultants

Home Child Care Consultants are Registered Early Childhood Educators with over 40 years of experience combined.  Once the approval process is complete, we assist and monitor the approved caregivers in meeting high standards in quality care.

Our Child Care Algoma Home Child Care Consultants provide:

  • scheduled and drop-in home visits
  • telephone support
  • child care related workshops/professional development
  • transportation/car seat installation workshops
  • free use of large equipment such as strollers, cots and feeding chairs (based on availability)
  • early learning resources and mentorship

Selecting the right home child care setting for your child is important.  We work in partnership with parents and caregivers to ensure that each child experiences a stimulating, nurturing program within a safe, home setting.
